Local, Social, and Mobile Solutions for Your Business

Everything you want to know about the Local Package, and more.

We have to begin this story with a little search engine mumbo jumbo. There are 3 major search engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Google is the most popular, 9 out of 10 searches are on Google. I will concentrate on Google, but the same will apply to Yahoo and Bing.

Another concept to know is "local search". A local search is any search that includes a city, street, address, zip, etc. One-third of searches are local. When people see these results they typically only click on the first few and almost never go to page 2. This is why it's extremely important to be listed on the first page. If your business is on page 2 most people won't even know you exist.

Google has a Places Page for every business listed on Google Maps. The Places Page shows your business' name, address, phone number, location, directions, photos, and reviews among other things. Check out the David Bennett Marketing Places Page. When someone does a search on Google, Places Pages show up right below the top 2 or 3 results. The order of the Places Pages depends on a number of things, and this is where I come in.

Properly optimized Places Pages can move up in the rankings, which can mean going from not being seen to the top of the pack. Google constantly changes how they rank the Places Pages, so being on top is never guaranteed.

Some of the major factors Google uses for their rankings include: owner verification, correctly entered business info, the number of links mentioning the business (business listings in directories, social media, reviews, etc. - these are called citations), consistent business info on those citations, plus other things Google keeps secret.

To get your Places Page to rank higher I will: get your Page verified, make sure your business info is entered correctly and completely, and add pictures.

I will submit your business listing to over 150 national and local directories, GPS maps (think Garmin, Ford, Lexus, etc.), and search engines. This should result in your Place Page moving up and more customers finding your business when doing a local search. I will update your Places Page monthly, keeping it current, another factor Google uses. Plus if you want to list offers or coupons on your Places Page I will do that as well.

Another factor Google uses is customer reviews, and potential customers use these as well. I will work with you to get your customers to review your business online. I will create a customized review card your business can use asking your customers to review your business online, or if they prefer, to fill out and I will post them online. I will post up to 10 reviews a month for your business. A steady stream of online reviews is another factor Google uses.

Google usually doesn't change their rankings overnight. Sometimes it can take up to 90 days to see any movement in a Places Page.
